Lone Conservative incumbent in NL hopes to retain his seat
I’m a producer with CBC N.L., and I’m at the Conservative incumbent’s headquarters in Grand Falls-Windsor. Clifford Small took the riding of Coast of BaysโCentralโNotre Dame from the Liberals by roughly 300 votes in the last federal election. That riding is now called Central Newfoundland.
The riding is mostly rural, with larger towns like Grand Falls-Windsor, Gander and Springdale being service centres for smaller communities.
Resource-based employment keeps the economy going in the riding, with the fishery and mining topping the list.
During his time as a member of Parliament, Small served as the shadow minister of fisheries for the past two and a half years. Prior to that, he was the Conservativesโ shadow minister for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. Poillevre has said heโll make Small the Minister of Fisheries if his party forms the government.
