Astronomer, The Company Linked to The Viral Coldplay Concert Video, Issues a Statement

The company at the center of online conversation regarding a viral video from a Coldplay concert says it’s launched a “formal investigation” into the matter.

During a July 16 concert at Massachusetts’ Gillette Stadium, two people were shown embracing on camera. But once they appeared on the jumbotron, they hid their faces from view.

The band’s lead singer, Chris Martin, then joked from the stage, “Either theyโ€™re having an affair or theyโ€™re just very shy.”

Clips of the moment soon spread across the internet with people online identifying at least one person in connection with Astronomer, a data infrastructure company.

“Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability,” the company said in a statement shared to X July 18. “The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly.”

Online, people identified one person in the video as Astronomer’s CEO Andy Bryon. NBC News has not independently confirmed he was in the footage but has reached out to Byron for comment.

“Andy Byron has not put out any statement, reports saying otherwise are all incorrect,” Astronomer said in the statement, adding, “no other employees were in the video.”

In the wake of the viral video, photos of a fake post made to appear like it came from Coldplay’s official X account also made the rounds. The post appeared to joke about having camera-free zones at future concerts. A representative for the band confirmed to TODAY.com the post is fake.
