“The Ultimatum: Queer Loveโ ended with love for most of the six couples on the show.
Following the turbulent drama from many couples, only one couple didnโt get engaged by Ultimatum Day. Marita Prodger and Ashley Johnson ended their 3-year-long relationship and parted ways.
โItโs funny because like, I was watching the first season with Ashley, and I was like, โWow, we would never do that to each other,โโ Marita tells TODAY.com. โItโs crazy that a couple of years later we were like, โOh, wait a minute.โ Maybe this could actually help our relationship and get us to the next level. And thatโs super not what happened.โ
Marita gave an update on her relationship prior to the Batch 2 drop on Jul 2.
Do Marita and Ashley get engaged in โThe Ultimatumโ finale?
Marita and Ashley had been together for about three years. Ashley issued the ultimatum to Marita, believing she wasnโt invested in their relationship anymore.
Ashley and Marita got along well with their trial wives and respected their boundaries. Ashley and Bridget Matloff were partnered and engaged in numerous romantic activities, including recreating the pottery scene from “Ghost.” While with Britney Thompson, Marita realized Ashley was lacking romantic expressions of love and affection.
During the changeover, the two discussed their respective issues and got into an argument.
โI took this experience so seriously in terms of what I needed to get out of it and the growth and everything that I found from it,โ Marita says in an interview with TODAY.com.
On Ultimatum Day Marita had hopes of getting a ring on her finger. โI want you to be my forever,โ Marita told Ashley at the beach. โBecause I canโt imagine a life without you.โ
But Ashley recognized that Marita wasnโt happy in the relationship. โI donโt know if I can go through with an engagement. Itโs not right at this point in time for us,โ Ashley told Marita, breaking off the relationship.
Speaking to TODAY.com, Marita says that, looking back, she knows she should not have accepted a proposal even if one came.
โJust even watching it back, like you can see energetically, sheโs not where Iโm at, and I do deserve better. So Iโm glad that we walked away from this, no longer together,โ Marita explains. โAnd now I get to be a pivotal moment to people that you should never settle. And if youโre obsessed with love, then donโt apologize for that.โ
In the reunion episode, Marita shared that she called her dad the day before ultimatum day asking for her blessing only for the proposal to not happen.
What is Marita and Ashleyโs relationship like now?
Following “The Ultimatum,” Marita blocked Ashley on social media.
During the reunion, they also got into a huge fight, which led to Ashley walking away off camera and sobbing. Marita apologized to Ashley, saying, โIโll never forget the relationship we had. There was a lot of highlights and I was absolutely fully in love with you.โ
When asked if there was any chance of any reconciliation by host JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Ashley responded, โI eventually hope so and hope we could talk.โ
โI think for me itโs going to take time, considering how it ended, … itโs heartbreaking,โ Marita said.
What is Marita and Britneyโs relationship like now?
To this day, Marita hangs out with Britney and AJ, who are still engaged, and remains especially close to her trial wife Britney.
โI was honestly so inspired by Britney. I love how passionate she is about what she does and how much of a bad— she is, being the CEO of her own company. You can tell she cares so much for the people in her life, from her family to her friends to AJ. Her genuine kindness and caring just radiates from her,” she says.
Marita became empowered by the way Britney cared and displayed love.
โIf this person energetically can give me this much love, light and energy, then there will be someone out there that can do that for me. And thatโs not Ashley because Iโm just simply not seeing that with her. Iโm not seeing the effort. I donโt need it and I can move on,” she says.
