Jessica Sanchez hasn’t given up on music.
After being eliminated from โAmericaโs Got Talentโ 20 years ago, she made her triumphant return on Season 20 of the program when she auditioned again and sang โBeautiful Thingsโ by Benson Boone.
โIโve been singing since I was a little girl, but me trying out for โAmericaโs Got Talent,โ that was a whole different world โ just the excitement and the thrill of it all,โ she said. โI did want this so bad. I made it to the semifinals. I did get eliminated. It was devastating, but it really did help me realize I want to sing. โAGTโ was the beginning of that fire sparked inside of me.โ
Sanchez, 29, then told judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel and Mel B what she’s been up to since she originally competed on the program. She explained she’s married now and is also pregnant with her first child.
She also said she’s happy to be back singing because there was a time when she lost her love for music. Sanchez even competed on Season 11 of “American Idol.”
“Throughout the years, I kind of fell out of love of music because I was really young and I was so swayed by what everybody wanted me to be, who they wanted me to be, and so maybe it took me 20 years, but I know exactly who I am. I know exactly what I want. I’m excited to be back,” she said.
After the judges wished her well, Sanchez brought down the house when she sang Boone’s 2024 hit song and hit all the high notes along the way.
When she was done, she received a standing ovation from the audience. At that point, it was clear she was moving onto the next round, and all the judges agreed. Vergara even pressed the Golden Buzzer for the tearful singer, which guarantees a contestant an automatic spot in the live shows.
“You deserve it,” she said while giving Sanchez a hug onstage.
If Sanchez’s stint on “America’s Got Talent” is anything like her time on “American Idol,” then she’s sure to go far on the reality TV show. Scroll below to learn how she did on “American Idol.”
Jessica Sanchez Competed on ‘American Idol’ in Season 11
In 2012, Sanchez competed on Season 11 of “American Idol.”
She made it all the way to the Top 7 until she was in danger of being eliminated after receiving the least amount of America’s votes. However, the judges ended up using their one save on her to keep her in the competition, which ended up propelling her to advance to the finale.
She lost to fellow contestant Phillip Phillips and was the season’s runner-up.
