Alix Earle is sharing why choosing to get veneers is one of her only regrets in life.
The internet personality uploaded a get-ready-with-me video to TikTok July 2 in which she opened up about her decision to change her โnatural teeth.โ At the start of the clip, Earle used an emery board to file her teeth. She explained that she bit off part of her tooth while eating dinner the night before and she wanted to see if could smooth the chipped enamel and make it look โmore nonchalant.โ
โIโm scared for this,โ she said as she started to use the nail file. But afterwards, she was satisfied with her appearance and smiled at the camera.
Then, the podcaster began to apply her makeup while launching into a story about the adjustments she has made to her teeth over the years.
โWell, I guess, veneer reveal. It was after I graduated college, I think, like in August, I did it. I never wanted to post about it because I immediately feel like I regretted it, and I never want to influence people to do something that I donโt think they should do,โ she shared.
Earle added, โAlthough, I like the results. I think that it was great.โ
She explained that as a child she had โreally good straight teethโ except for two of her front teeth. She recalled falling off her bike during her childhood and hitting the front of her mouth.
Although two of her teeth were dislodged and โdangling from the nerves,โ her dentist advised her to hold them in place until they eventually straightened.
Her teeth returned to their original position, but she decided to try Invisalign โ custom clear aligners โ during her final year of high school. Again, she was pleased with the results, but they didnโt last because didnโt wear her retainers, causing her teeth to shift. So, prior to graduation she underwent a cosmetic procedure called composite bonding. The reversible cosmetic procedure involves applying โtooth-colored resin material to the affected teeth to change their shape, size or color,โ according to the Cleveland Clinic.
When the material cracked due to her biting her teeth, she finally opted to get veneers.
โIโm an anxious person. So sometimes, if I have, like, a bad dream, Iโll bite my teeth and they would crack off. It happened a lot, honestly, probably like twice a year they cracked off. Senior year of college (I) started getting a following on here, made some money,โ she explained. โBecause I had friends that had veneers on just these two (front) teeth, I was like, โOh, you know what? That seems like a good idea.โโ
She spoke to a dentist who claimed it wouldnโt be possible to only fix two of her teeth. According to her, the dentist said it would not be worth it to get the cosmetic procedure because all her teeth would not look the same.
โSo I went in for two teeth, and I basically left with 10,โ she continued as she became emotional. โIt was one of those things that I did it andโฆI regretted it right away. I think it was really scary for me I was like, โWhat did I just do?โโ
Earle emphasized how much she wishes she had waited before changing her appearance.
โI will say I donโt regret a lot. It is something I really regret doing. At the end of the day, whatever, it was my decision. But I feel like it was kind of one of those decisions that was made pretty fast and I just didnโt think it all the way through, or, I think, talk to enough people.โ
Despite some moments of insecurity since then, she has grown to like her smile.
โI actually like the character in my teeth. Itโs great,โ she said.
Toward the end of the video, she apologized to any fans who might be upset that she didnโt share this information sooner.
โIf youโre thinking about doing anything to your teeth, this is your sign to not do it and to embrace your natural teeth,โ she concluded. โDonโt follow my lead on this one.โ
