Aaron Rodgers is explaining why he has not publicly revealed his wifeโs identity after confirming he is now a married man.
The 41-year-old NFL player appeared on โThe Pat McAfee Showโ June 24 and spoke about entering a new chapter in his life as he recently signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Toward the end of the conversation, he also briefly touched on another major change regarding his personal life: getting married. During the interview, he repeatedly stressed why he prioritizes maintaining his wifeโs privacy.
When McAfee joked about being invited to a possible wedding reception for the couple, Rodgers firmly shut down the idea. He replied, โItโs a sick society, isnโt it? Iโve lived in the public eye for 20 years. I had a public relationship. How did that work out?โ

Without clarifying which relationship he was referring to, he mentioned that in the past, information about his address was leaked and he also had to deal with attention from paparazzi.
โI didnโt like any of that and now Iโm with somebody whoโs private, who doesnโt want to be in the public eye,โ he continued. โ(She) didnโt sign up to be a celebrity, doesnโt want to be a part of it.โ
The quarterback said that his attempt to retreat from life in the public eye over the last few years has caused him to be labeled as โweird.โ He also claimed that paparazzi have been following him recently to snap a picture of his wife.
โWhat is the entitlement to information that weโre living in society these days where thatโs, like, a norm?โ he asked.
He noted that it is a security issue before speaking more about his bride.
Rodgers shared, โMy wife is a private person, doesnโt have social media, hasnโt been a public person, doesnโt want to be a public person.โ
The athlete revealed that he intends to also completely withdraw from the spotlight when his professional football career ends.
โI know that Iโve chosen to be in the public eye for one more season, but my private life is staying private,โ he said.
Rodgers then reiterated his point, adding, โMy private life is my private life, and itโs going to stay that way. Iโm with somebody who wants to be private, and if and when she wants to be out and thereโs a picture, sheโll choose that. She deserves the right to that.โ
He announced earlier this month that he had tied the knot earlier this month in a press conference following his first practice with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
When one journalist mentioned that it looked like he was possibly wearing a wedding ring, he confirmed she was correct.
โYeah, itโs a wedding ring,โ he casually responded June 10.
Another reporter asked how long ago he said โI do.โ Rodgers replied, โItโs been a couple of months,โ without providing more details about his wife or their nuptials.
