Aaron Rodgers Defends Wife’s Privacy Weeks After Confirming He’s Married

Aaron Rodgers is explaining why he has not publicly revealed his wife’s identity after confirming he is now a married man.

The 41-year-old NFL player appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” June 24 and spoke about entering a new chapter in his life as he recently signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Toward the end of the conversation, he also briefly touched on another major change regarding his personal life: getting married. During the interview, he repeatedly stressed why he prioritizes maintaining his wife’s privacy.

When McAfee joked about being invited to a possible wedding reception for the couple, Rodgers firmly shut down the idea. He replied, “It’s a sick society, isn’t it? I’ve lived in the public eye for 20 years. I had a public relationship. How did that work out?”

Without clarifying which relationship he was referring to, he mentioned that in the past, information about his address was leaked and he also had to deal with attention from paparazzi.

“I didn’t like any of that and now I’m with somebody who’s private, who doesn’t want to be in the public eye,” he continued. “(She) didn’t sign up to be a celebrity, doesn’t want to be a part of it.”

The quarterback said that his attempt to retreat from life in the public eye over the last few years has caused him to be labeled as “weird.” He also claimed that paparazzi have been following him recently to snap a picture of his wife.

“What is the entitlement to information that we’re living in society these days where that’s, like, a norm?” he asked.

He noted that it is a security issue before speaking more about his bride.

Rodgers shared, “My wife is a private person, doesn’t have social media, hasn’t been a public person, doesn’t want to be a public person.”

The athlete revealed that he intends to also completely withdraw from the spotlight when his professional football career ends.

“I know that I’ve chosen to be in the public eye for one more season, but my private life is staying private,” he said.

Rodgers then reiterated his point, adding, “My private life is my private life, and it’s going to stay that way. I’m with somebody who wants to be private, and if and when she wants to be out and there’s a picture, she’ll choose that. She deserves the right to that.”

He announced earlier this month that he had tied the knot earlier this month in a press conference following his first practice with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

When one journalist mentioned that it looked like he was possibly wearing a wedding ring, he confirmed she was correct.

“Yeah, it’s a wedding ring,” he casually responded June 10.

Another reporter asked how long ago he said “I do.” Rodgers replied, “It’s been a couple of months,” without providing more details about his wife or their nuptials.
