‘White Lotus’ Star Aimee Lou Wood Says She Wasn’t Crying About ‘SNL’ Skit In Recent Pics

Aimee Lou Wood is clearing up rumors that the tears she was spotted wiping away in public were due to jokes made about her on “Saturday Night Live” β€” which “The White Lotus” star previously condemned.

Wood was spotted crying in the arms of Ralph Davis β€” who she is collaborating with on an upcoming project called “Film Club” β€” in the streets of London on April 14. Davis held Wood with one arm while she cried. In one photo, she turned her forehead to his chest as she sobbed, while multiple other photos captured her wiping away tears.

Speculation immediately emerged that Wood’s tears were due to a recent “SNL” sketch that mocked her teeth. However, on April 15, Wood posted on her Instagram story that she “actually wasn’t crying about anything that the papers made out. I was crying about something completely unrelated.”

Her message was written underneath a story repost from broadcaster and DJ Ashley Louise James, who was providing her support for Wood.

“Absolutely devastating to see another brilliant and talented actress reduced to tears because of people tearing into their appearance,” James wrote.

“Women truly can’t win. Embrace their natural beauty β€” get ripped apart. Alter their appearance to fit the very narrow ideas of beauty – get crucified. @aimeelouwood you are so beautiful. But more than that, you’re an incredibly talented actor. A true talent. Shame on SNL for their cruelty. I’m so glad you spoke up.”

While Wood’s story didn’t note what she was crying about, it did clarify that she wasn’t “reduced to tears” because of “SNL,” despite previously voicing her disappointment in a sketch that made fun of her.

During the show’s April 12 episode, “SNL” aired a skit called “The White Potus,” which placed President Donald J. Trump, his cabinet and family in the shoes of characters from the hit HBO show. While many of the characters modeled Trump or his administration, some were exaggerated versions of characters on the show.

Cast member Sarah Sherman played Wood’s character, Chelsea, in the skit with a set of fake teeth which were shown as Jon Hamm, who played Robert F. Kennedy Jr., discussed taking fluoride out of drinking water.

On April 13, Wood posted a selfie on her Instagram story explaining her distaste for the spoof.

“But whilst in honest mode β€” I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny xo,” she wrote. “(Felt righteous might delete later x).”

In another Instagram story, she expressed that she wished “SNL” went a β€œcleverer, more nuanced, less cheap” route when spoofing her character.

“I don’t mind caricature β€” I understand that’s what SNL is,” she continued. “But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.”

In following posts, Wood expressed that she’s received “thousands” of supportive messages, along with an apology from “SNL.”

“On a positive note, everyone is agreeing with me about it so I’m glad I said something instead of going in on myself,” she wrote in a separate Instagram story.

However, her co-star and on-screen love interest Walton Goggins praised “SNL” for the skit.

β€œHahahahahhahaha Amazzzingggg,” Goggins wrote in a since-deleted commented on the official “SNL” Instagram page.

His response added fuel to the rumors that there’s a rift between the two ever since fans noticed neither follows the other on Instagram and that both posted photos of their on-screen romance without tagging each other.
