Bowen Yang is among those who were surprised by fellow โSaturday Night Liveโ cast member Ego Nwodimโs viral bit from the April 5 episode, in which she unwittingly got the audience to say a curse word in unison.
Nwodim played Ms. Eggy in a bit on “Weekend Update” where she tried to plead her case for emceeing the White House Correspondentsโ Association. At one point, she mentioned Sen. Cory Bookerโs record-setting speechย in front of the Senate last week.ย
โCory Booker out here with his filibuster. Shoot, Iโve had my fill of busters. Because these men ainโt what?โ she said before holding the microphone toward the audience.
The audience replied, โS—,โ prompting it to be censored in later airings, as well as the clip on the โSNLโ YouTube page.
โWe finna get fined for that,โ Nwodim said, while โWeekend Updateโ anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che laughed.
โYโall going to have to pay for that. Lorne’s going to be mad at yโall,โ she continued, mentioning “SNL” creator and executive producer, Lorne Michaels.
Yang, who guest co-hosted TODAY with Jenna & Friends on April 7, was surprised the audience responded with such coarse language at the same time.
โI think the way it was written was, it was supposed to play to silence,โ he said. โThe audience doesnโt know what the catch phrases are and I think this says something about the state of men in this current year of 2025 that everyone knew what to say at the same time.โ
โThey didnโt even say, โAinโt worth a damn,โ which I think we are allowed to say,โ Jenna said.
โThey really went for it because weโre tired, man,โ she continued.
โLook, Iโm tired. Me, too. Iโm tired of guys, also,โ Yang said.
Jenna then complimented Yang on his work in โWickedโ and said she hasnโt had her fill of him.
โYouโre just the best. Youโre the only man besides my husband that Iโm not tired of,โ she said.
Yang then circled back to compliment Ngowimโs work in the sketch.
โSheโs carrying the handbag like sheโs one of the queens of comedy. That was such a funny bit. Iโm telling you, as a cast member, thereโs no better feeling than scoring on โWeekend Update,โ and thatโs one of the all-time great (bits),โ he said.
โShe killed it,โ Jenna said.
Jenna also loved how Jost and Che were laughing in the background.
โThe fact that they were sitting behind her, Colin and Michael, and just were like, โWhat is this?โ It was so good,โ she said.
