A lie detector test hilariously revealed some “rude” truths about the relationship between Jenna Bush Hager and her husband, Henry Hager, before they ended the segment on a high note.
With Henry serving as Jenna’s guest co-host on TODAY with Jenna & Friends on March 28, the couple decided to strap themselves to lie detector machines to put their marriage to the test.
“We thought it would be a perfect opportunity to put each other on the spot in a segment we probably will regret later,” Jenna joked.
John Grogan, known online as Lie Detector Guy, has performed lie detector tests on pop stars, actors and other celebrities dating back to the 1980s. He interpreted the results from the machines after Jenna and Henry answered questions posed by each other.
Jenna kicked it off by asking her husband of nearly 17 years if she has ever given him “the ick.” Henry answered yes, which Grogan verified was a true statement.
Henry then elaborated on why he answered that way.
“Sometimes in the morning, you know, you might want to brush your teeth,” he said.
“That is so rude!” Jenna replied.
Henry then asked Jenna if she was nervous about whether Henry would be a good guest co-host when he joined her on TODAY on March 27 and 28. She answered yes, which was verified to be true.
“That’s just because I love you and want to protect you, sweetie,” Jenna said. “As opposed to saying that my breath smells bad in the morning.”
Jenna then put Henry on the spot. She recalled how she once told a story on TODAY that he found a box that contained items from Jenna’s ex-boyfriends. She asked him if he has similar keepsakes from former girlfriends.
He answered yes, which was determined to be true by Grogan.
“I’m a Boy Scout. I tell the truth,” Henry said. “Pictures, maybe. Letters. Something somewhere. I don’t know where they are.”
Henry followed by asking Jenna if she ever intentionally ghosted him by not returning his text messages. She said yes, and once again, the lie detector determined it was true.
“That’s so rude,” Henry said.
“I didn’t ghost,” Jenna said. “I just want some boundaries around how fast I have to reply.”
Both of them were then asked if the parents of three love each other even more after the “Lie Detector Duel” segment.
Henry answered yes, which Grogan found was a lie. The question was posed again, and Henry again answered yes. Lie again.
Jenna also answered yes and for her, it was deemed true.
“Anybody else want to use this machine?” Jenna said. “Seems to do wonders for relationships.”
One final question had them both breathing a sigh of relief. They were asked if they will stay married.
Both said yes, and Grogan determined their responses to be true.
