Cynthia Erivo, nominated for an Oscar for her performance in โWicked,โ certainly seems to be โdefying gravityโ on the red carpet.
Dressed in a voluminous dark green velvet ballgown, Erivo has a collar that stands up stiffly (likely a nod to Elphaba’s cape) and sleeves that jut out several inches from her arms, giving the top of her dress a bow shape that offsets the sharp angles of her collar.
โI feel wonderful in this,โ Erivo said on the E! red carpet. โWe worked on this for a little while.โ
She added, โI wanted a big dress for the Oscars if i made it here and here we are … in this big giant dress. I feel amazing in it!โ
Fashion expert Zanna Roberts Rossi said that Erivoโs stylist Jason Bolden told her, โIs the witch really that wicked? No, but this dress is.โ
Though Erivo’s custom Louis Vuitton dress certainly helps her stand out, her nail art deserves its own award.
โEvery time we do a carpet, we change them over,โ Erivo said. โThis time we wanted a proper ode to Oz, the Emerald City, the green and the gold and the guild.โ
Speaking of awards, if Erivo wins the best actress award, she’ll be the youngest star to achieve an EGOT and have bragging rights for winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award.
