There’s a new sheriff — or should we say doctor/lawyer — in town, and his name is Dr. Dusty Magic.
John Stamos will make his “Palm Royale” debut in Episode 4 of Season 2, titled “Maxine Unwrecks a Home.” TODAY.com has your exclusive first look at his guest role and how he comes to Maxine’s (Kristen Wiig) rescue ahead of the Wednesday, Dec. 3 episode.
The clip begins with Maxine being interrogated by the police, who think she is responsible for Norma’s (Carol Burnett) disappearance.
“There’s no body! No body, no death, no murder,” she tells Sergeant Tom Sanka (Rick Cosnett). “It’s the Holy Trinity of the law!”
Then, from behind the two-way mirror in the interrogation room, a switch flips and Dr. Dusty Magic makes his charming appearance.
“Amen to that,” he tells Maxine as he walks into the room, wearing a navy suit, sunglasses and cowboy hat. “Any man who is his own lawyer has a fool for a client, and you are far too pretty to be a fool.”
Dr. Dusty introduces himself as a “doctor of law and a part-time gynecologist.” He then tells Tom that he’s held Maxine for three days without any due cause or proof that she killed Norma.
Free to go, Maxine stands to leave but receives a stern warning from the sergeant. She isn’t intimidated. She puts on her cat eye sunglasses and tells him, “I will own this town” before departing with Dr. Dusty.
Teasing his character’s arc this season, Stamos tells TODAY.com, “He comes on pretty strong and you kind of go, like, ‘Who is this shifty guy?’”
“He’s a lawyer slash gynecologist — and he’s pretty slick,” he adds. “He comes around at a time when (Maxine is) very vulnerable and very open and very emotional. And so, I come in so fast.”
Wiig also tells TODAY.com that when Dusty enters Maxine’s life, she has a major realization.
“I think Maxine, in meeting Dusty, has realized she does have something to offer,” Wiig says. “And she still wants what she wants. She still is reaching for that, like the money and all of that stuff, but I think she’s starting to realize she needs to be around people that care about her.”
New episodes of “Palm Royale” drop Wednesdays on Apple TV.
