As Taylor Swift announced the title of her upcoming 12th album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” some fans noticed another surprise reveal in the video — Jason Kelce’s hair transformation.
During the early hours of the morning on Aug. 12, Swift and Jason and Travis Kelce’s podcast, “New Heights,” uploaded a joint teaser previewing her upcoming appearance on the show. In the clip, Swift told Jason Kelce, “I wanted to show you something,” before revealing her new album, titled “The Life of a Showgirl,” from a mint green briefcase.
The clip included Jason Kelce’s surprised reaction and also gave a glimpse of his new darker hairdo. The 37-year-old retired NFL player, who usually sports a salt-and-pepper look, appeared to have dyed his locks and facial hair a darker shade of brown.
Hours after Swifties had somewhat processed the news of Swift’s next era, the “New Heights” X account tweeted “How’s everyone feeling this morning?” and included a better look at Jason Kelce’s updated ‘do.
But it seems one of Jason Kelce’s close friends wasn’t the biggest fan of the change.
Fellow retired-NFL-player-turned-sports-commentator Ryan Fitzpatrick replied to the post and jokingly wrote, “Betrayed,” as a former athlete who also embraces his salt-and-pepper hair.
Jason Kelce responded to the tweet, assuring his friend. “I promise the dye was for a good reason, don’t hate me,” Jason Kelce said.
Some fans appeared to agree with Fitzpatrick’s stance. “While salt & pepper hair is superior. Still love you, Jason,” one said.
Another wrote, “It was a far more shocking surprise than the Tay Tay reveal.”
Others in the comments gave their approval. “Had to look good for the episode cause we all know it’s going in the history books,” one Swiftie tweeted.
Although Swift shared the album name in the teaser, the cover art was blurred, making fans suspect the full reveal will be shown during Wednesday’s full episode.
In the clips that have been released so far, Swift is seen sitting beside Travis Kelce. He and his brother instantly celebrate when she announces “The Life of a Showgirl” is on the way. Another clip shows the couple exchanging flirty banter.
“Such a nice color on you,” she says about his shirt.
Travis Kelce replies, “Yes. It’s the color of your eyes, sweetie. That’s why we match so well.”
The next episode of “New Heights” will arrive at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Aug. 13.
