While eagerly awaiting the birth of his first child, Pete Davidson has taken some simple parenting advice from a pair of co-stars who have 11 children between them.
The actor and comedian spoke to Al Roker alongside Eddie Murphy and Keke Palmer in an interview that aired July 28 on TODAY about what they have told him as he and girlfriend Elsie Hewitt expect their first baby together. The trio star in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video comedy “The Pickup.”
Murphy, 64, particularly has plenty of experience in the dad department as the father of 10 children. Palmer, 31, has a 2-year-old son with her ex-boyfriend.
Al asked Davidson if he received any parenting tips from Murphy and Palmer.
“Best advice was no advice,” Davidson said. “You canโt tell someone how to parent.”
“It’s no effort in it,” Murphy said. “Youโre wired to do the right thing by your child.”
Al also surprised Davidson by gifting him a TODAY onesie.
“Aw, Elsie’s going to lose it,” Davidson said.
Davidson, 31, and Hewitt, 29, announced the joyous pregnancy news July 16 on Instagram with a slideshow of photos that included a clip of her visit for an ultrasound.
The comedian, who recently told Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” that it’s his “dream to be a dad,” spoke to Al about what he is looking forward to the most.
“Iโm just excited to take care of something,” he said. “I donโt know much about fatherhood as itโs my first time. But be there for it.”
“And also, get out of my own head,” he continued. “Itโs not about me now.”
Davidson’s father, Scott Davidson, was a firefighter who died in the terrorist attack in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001, when Pete was only 7 years old.
The 2020 film “The King of Staten Island” starring Davidson is based on his emotional and comic struggles of growing up without his father.
In his newest film, he stars as an armored truck driver alongside Murphy, and the two are ambushed by a criminal mastermind played by Palmer.
