Warning: Spoilers ahead for โThe Fantastic Four: First Steps.โ
Marvelโs first family is back on the big screen for the MCUโs latest film, โThe Fantastic Four: First Steps,โ re-introducing fans to Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and The Thing.
For the new superhero flick, which hit theaters July 25, Pedro Pascal steps into the role of Reed Richards while Vanessa Kirby plays Sue Storm. Completing the family are Joseph Quinnโs Johnny Storm, Sueโs brother, and Ebon Moss-Bachrachโs character Ben Grimm, Reedโs close friend.
Straying from the early 2000s โFantastic Fourโ films and the widely panned 2015 reboot, this time comic book fans meet Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben on Earth-828 circa the early 1960s, as evident by the movieโs glossy retro-futuristic style.

The film breezes past the charactersโ origin stories, showing in flashbacks how their previous trip to space resulted in them returning to Earth with superpowers. But the beloved heroes of this world are rattled when one day the Silver Surfer, played by Julia Garner, descends from the sky and announces to the quartet, and the world, that their planet is marked for death. She tells them that Earth will be consumed by a colossal being known as Galactus, voiced by Ralph Ineson.
Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben then try to come up with a plan to protect their planet while also preparing for the arrival of Reed and Sueโs baby boy.
So, what happens during their battle with Galactus, and are there any post-credit scenes that reveal when fans will see the Fantastic Four again? Read on to find out how โThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsโ ends and if there are any additional scenes after the credits start rolling.
Is there a post-credit scene at the end of โThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsโ?
Marvel is gifting fans with two post-credit scenes in โThe Fantastic Four: First Steps,โ one of which hints at how the next part of Phase Six will unfold.
In the final act of the movie, Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben are able to prevent Galactus from eating their planet and taking Reed and Sueโs newborn baby, Franklin. Galactus had asked the couple to sacrifice their child to him and in exchange he would leave their planet alone. He reveals that Franklin has special abilities that would eliminate the giantโs insatiable hunger, even though Reedโs multiple tests appeared to confirm the baby lacked superpowers.

Instead of giving into Galactusโ demand, the quartet outsmart him by luring the entity into a trap. However, the plan goes awry and Sue has to use all her strength to create a force field strong enough to push Galactus into a portal that sends him to a far part of the galaxy.
Sue dies but when Reed places Franklin on top of her, the boy suddenly revives her.
The film ends and a few credits roll before we check in on Sue and Franklin four years later in the first post-credit scene. Sue finishes reading a book to Franklin in the Fantastic Fourโs penthouse apartment, located at the Baxter Building, before she goes into another room to grab a second novel.
When she returns to the living room, she senses something is wrong and spots Doctor Doom leaning over the child. Although the villain has his mask removed in the scene and holds it in his hand, his face is not shown. Marvel has previously announced that Robert Downey Jr., who portrayed Iron Man, will re-join the MCU as Doctor Doom.
The flick then cuts to a black screen with text that reads, โThe Fantastic Four will return in โAvengers: Doomsday.โโ
Once all the credits conclude, the film officially ends with a snippet from the 1967 โFantastic Fourโ cartoon. There is also a quote from Jack Kirby, who co-created the Fantastic Four with the late Stan Lee, as well as many other comic book characters prior to his death in 1994. The quote from Kirby says, โIf you look at my characters, you will find me. No matter what kind of character you create or assume, a little of yourself must remain there.โ
How does the post-credit scene impact โAvengers: Doomsdayโ?
Doctor Doom finally making an appearance in a Marvel film isnโt that surprising given that he will be the main โBig Badโ for this phase of the MCU and that he is one of the Fantastic Fourโs biggest adversaries. Plus, Pascal, Kirby, Quinn and Moss-Bachrach were previously announced as โAvengers: Doomsdayโ cast members in March.
However, as mentioned, โFirst Stepsโ is set in the 1960s, decades before the timelines of Marvelโs other films this year, like โCaptain America: Brave New Worldโ and โThunderbolts*.โ So, Doctor Doom popping up in this movie could suggest there will be some type of time travel element at the center of โAvengers: Doomsday.โ
Fans will see the Fantastic Four don their blue suits again alongside other co-stars like Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, James Marsden and more when โAvengers: Doomsdayโ arrives in theaters December 18, 2026.
