Christopher Meloni is ready to kick off a new venture in his career.
The “Law & Order: Organized Crime” actor has signed on to star in an upcoming Hulu series set in the NFL.
The untitled show comes from “This Is Us” creator Dan Fogelman, who shared a screenshot of a Deadline article confirming Meloni’s involvement.
“Welcome to the team @chris_meloni,” he wrote on his Instagram page July 23.
Meloni will reportedly play the head coach of an NFL team, according to Deadline.
“It is believed to be a sprawling drama set inside the world of the NFL with a generational family component,” Deadline first reported last year about the show.
Meloni is best known for his role as Detective Elliot Stabler on “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” which concluded its fifth season on Peacock in June. He originated the role on “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” in 1999 and played Stabler for 12 seasons before reprising him on the show for multiple episodes beginning in 2021, the same year “Organized Crime” premiered.
Interestingly, “This Is Us” would occasionally mention the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers during its run, with the Pearson family rooting on their hometown team.
This new project will also mark a full-circle moment of sorts for Meloni. One of his earliest roles came in the fifth season of the HBO series “1st & Ten.” He played Vito Del Greco, also known as Johnny Gunn, in the comedy starring O.J. Simpson that revolved around a fictitious pro football team called the California Bulls.
