The confirmation coincides with Heathโ€™s retirement announcement. In an interview with The Athletic, the soccer player discussed her decision, with the outlet referring to Press as โ€œher wife and former teammateโ€ while recounting a previous conversation they had about her choice to step away from the game.

A representative for the couple confirmed to TODAY.com via email that they are “happily married,” writing, “They have never hidden their relationship and are very proud of each other.”

In the Athletic’s article, Press described having on some level an awareness of Heath’s readiness to leave soccer.

โ€œThere was a long period of time where I knew that she would not be signing another professional contract,โ€ Press said in the interview. โ€œIt was my job to leave space for her to find that out on her own.โ€

Heath and Press were longtime teammates on the U.S. Women’s National Team, competing together in multiple World Cups and Olympic Games. In 2015, they were part of the team that won the FIFA Womenโ€™s World Cup.

In July 2024, the two confirmed during โ€œWatch with Alex Cooper,โ€ an Olympics show on Peacock, that they had been in a relationship for eight years.

โ€œThe other day, someone just said to us, โ€˜Oh, you guys, these guys just met, you look like youโ€™re in love,โ€™โ€ Press said at the time. โ€œAnd Iโ€™m like, โ€˜No, itโ€™s been eight years.โ€™โ€
