If good things really do come to those who wait, fans of “Chicago P.D.” are in for a real treat when the NBC series returns from its midseason hiatus.
After the intriguing midseason finale dropped in November, viewers have been left wondering when all the action would pick back up. Luckily, “Chicago P.D.” is about to return for the second half of Season 12.

Good news! The midseason “Chicago P.D.” hiatus is over and the show is returning with new episodes starting Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 10/9c on NBC.
This week’s new episode (Season 12 Episode 9) is titled “Friends and Family.” According to an episodic description, it will focus heavily on Officer Cook (Toya Turner) as she “turns to her family when Intelligence faces administrative roadblocks that threaten a kidnapping investigation.”
In a recent interview with TV Insider, Turner said her new character will be featured more prominently looking ahead.
“Youโre going to get to know her a lot more. Youโre going to get to know a lot more about her background and where she came from, and something special is coming up,” she teased.
What happened in the midseason finale of โChicago P.D.?
As always, “Chicago P.D.” packed a whole lot of action into the midseason finale (Season 12 Episode 8), which aired on Nov. 20, 2024.
Titled “Penance,” the episode followed the Chicago police unit as they got to the bottom of a secret Officer Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) had been keeping (ie. his relationship with Gloria, played by Yara Martinez). In the midseason finale, Gloria, who was previously married to a heroin trafficker, died.
